CRAZY HAIR DAY >.<

This term me and my school celebrated crazy hair day. In this post I will be talking about the meaning/reason behind Crazy hair day, and what our school did to celebrate. I understand that this post is a little – late. Crazy hair day was celebrated about 5 or so weeks ago at our school. But in my opinion, better late than never!

Let’s start with the reason behind crazy hair day. We do crazy hair day as a fundraiser to raise money to fund the treatment for people with blood cancer. With blood cancer, there’s a high chance that you will lose you hair through chemotherapy as the treatment can be harmful to their hair follicles.  This can be devastating and really hard on the patients and there families.

Did you know that 8 kiwi’s – adults/children – get diagnosed with blood cancer per day!? That’s awful!

Anyone can get blood cancer, in fact you may even know somebody with blood cancer. By schools, families, towns and clubs all celebrating crazy hair day, the closer scientists/doctors get to finding a cure. Donate today at  – Blood cancer NZ  –  or  – Shave for a cure.

This year our school not only asked people for a gold coin donation, but we also asked for them to come with crazy hair. We have competitions for fundraisers like this. Best hair/outfit wins. To give more people a chance to have crazy hair and win the prize. 4 seniors worked hard for 2 whole hours, painting glitter gel in hair, braiding, slicking, chatting and brushing others hair to give them a funky new hairstyle. we made a few extra dollars by charging $1 for a style. All you need to do this at your school are some talented stylists, hair gel, glitter and a few old hair brushes. It truely is as simple as that. Make sure to advertise first of course and then you are fully set.

Now you know that Crazy hair day isn’t just about the styles – it’s also about raising money for people in need.

Thank you for reading this weeks blog post. Blog to you soon :0
