No More Moa!

What Up Blog Readers,

Last week and this week we have been learning about the Moa. The Moa is the largest bird to ever walk our lands (or that we know anyways). Unfortunately Moa are now extinct, which is a shame because that means that our generation don’t get the chance to see them and they don’t get to live the lives they deserve to live.

We had to write a historical recount on a man name Richard Owen. He was the man that found out what it was.

The Moa’s scientific name is Dinornis Novaezealandiae – meaning the Fearsome Bird of New Zealand.

This is my writing…

Into

It’s hard to believe that there was a time where our lands were walked by the largest beasts alive. No, not the dinosaurs, something much more unique…

The discovery

It all began in the 1800’s when a mysterious man turned up at the front door of my laboratory. He had this bone that his nephew from New Zealand had given him. He thought that this bone was so peculiar, it would be the next big thing. This man, called John Rule, honestly thought a cow bone was interesting! He must’ve lived a very boring life before this!

I told him that he had wasted my time and that he should go back and continue living whatever life he had been living before. His response to that was shocking… He had pointed out that the marrow of this bone wasn’t even close to a cow bone as the marrow looked too similar to honeycomb. What he had just pointed out was fear. This bone had to have come from a bird…

Not so bad after all

Next thing I know, I’m comparing this bone with other bones from my immense assemblage to see if I had a match. Unfortunately I didn’t come across any duplicates in my collection. Then I realized that I should have been looking where the original was found, in New Zealand.

I decided to send a letter to New Zealand (and other places, just for proportion) telling them about this mysterious bone that had been discovered, and asking them to please let people know that if anybody found a strange bone to ship it to me immediately. Hopefully something would be discovered sooner than later.

A few years later I got a letter from New Zealand saying that 2 men called William Colenso and William Williams had found a collection of bones down by a beach in New Zealand. They said that there would be boxes arriving in a few months.

All I could think when I got this letter was that the boxes that would arrive soon, may contain the missing pieces of this case…

To be or not to be?

I have been waiting for this boat to berth for many months and the wait will soon be over! Although I waited for a while and was excited to open it. I still had horrible thoughts filling my head, I couldn’t help but worry.

What if there aren’t any matches?

How can I be sure that this wouldn’t be a wasted four years of my life?

I knew that I couldn’t be sure that there were any matches yet. But then again I also knew that I had to hope for the best, think of all the bright sides. There could be a match and I could become famous for it. Maybe not famous, but like I said I have to think positive!

Finally the boat had berthed and the boxes had arrived. Before I opened them up I thought about how many people I wanted to thank for helping me with this discovery. Without them, this case may never be solved.

I opened the first box and compared the bones. They looked practically identical, the differences were one was larger than the other and one was hole, the other wasn’t. I looked through the other boxes when I eventually found an actual pair!

Thanks to William Williams and William Colenso this inspection was finally over. Even if it did take four years and a few months, the adventure is finally over.

Conclusion

My first reaction was shock and I was mad that John Rule had brought me a bone that I thought was stupid. My final reaction was astonishment and excitement. I had been a lead part in a major discovery.

This is Richard Owens signing out!

Do you wish that you could see a Moa?

Konichiwa Japan

Hello blog readers,

This week we had a  task was to write a recount on your most memorable holiday. I chose Japan. I chose this holiday for 2 reasons. Reason 1 – I loved this holiday and I had an idea of what to write each paragraph. Reason 2 – No one else in my class has been to Japan so it would be extremely unique.

I enjoyed writing this recount, however I disliked how long it took!

Do you have a favourite holiday? If so, what was it and why? Let me know in the comments!

Blog to you soon!

Anastasia and Drizella

At the moment in literacy we have been learning about perspectives. Perspectives r 2 sides of a story. The main person we r focusing on at the moment is The Big Bad Wolf. Our create task was to write a small story about a story villain that has been mistreated or may have a different story. I did mine on Anastasia and Drizella. Let me know what u think…

What do you think? Comment what so – called you want me to do next!

Doom Day! @NUMBER3

Doom Day ⛈️

Rain dripping on my head, puddles being splashed by 5 year old’s from behind me. 1 million people screaming as the rain bell went. For some people rain is painful, annoying even, but for me rain is like a friend. Thunderstorms are my best friends. Kids call me weird, creepy, dark, but they have no idea.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be lonely at school? Well my life is exactly like that…

My only friend in the world is the dark creepy spiders hanging from their spiderwebs in the school janitors room. My parents say that I should try to make friends with normal humans, but friends are so out- rated. As I ignore the rain bell I carry on hanging from the colourful playgrounds rubber spider web. My teacher (Ms Mandy) starts to yell at me to come inside, “Come in right now Miss Tiffany!” I rolled my eyes, as if I was coming in now. Ms Mandy eventually decided to just give up and leave me hanging. Kids were allowed to come back out to play, this was like my worst nightmare/my only nightmare.

If I could choose one power in the world, I’d make everybody turn into a spider and make them look like my friend, Webs. Webs isn’t really a talker, or if he is I can’t understand him, since he’s a spider. My sister (Laylah) stared at me and started to shake her head, “You are so adopted, as if I could have a sister that looks like a shadow.” Laylah told me. Laylah is one of those characters who has to look perfect, you know one of the girls who cares about her appearance more than her grade, I’m the complete opposite. “At least they wanted me,” I called back.

“Let’s go ladies,” Laylah said as she turned her body to the rest of her friends, “I feel like we’re walking in a bathtub.” They all laughed as they flicked their hair and strolled off.

The Shady Door! @NUMBER2

19.12.1974 – Nikki’s Death!

“Help me!” I scream, “Help me, please!” Something was going down, something that could possibly be the last thing in my life.

My Name is Nikki. You probably don’t care who I am. But trust me you will care who I am, because I am actually dead. Currently I am writing this as a ghost. No, I am not a nerd who really likes to write and wants to write while I am dead. I want to tell you how I died.

It started off as a regular day but it did not end that way. I loved going on adventures with my best friend Millie. I loved it so much, I really did. We went on a trip to this forest. A ton of people had warned Millie and I not to go because of a myth about the forest. Apparently it had a haunted door that just stood there. We didn’t believe the silly myth and so we went.

I regret going now because a little while after going to the forest we seeked that door. Millie said we should go back but I didn’t listen. I was determined to find what was in that door. Millie still didn’t think it was a good idea so she left me! Don’t get me wrong I was upset that she left but I honestly wasn’t willing to go back with her, and so I opened the door. All I saw was a big dungeon.

I wasn’t scared at all because there was nothing in there. I walked in and wandered around a little. Bang! I turned around to find that the door had closed. I went to open it but it was locked. As it was locked I decided to go walk around the dungeon to find a key but I had no luck. I saw something move in the distance. Maybe it was a shadow of a leaf being blown around outside. No, it wasn’t a leaf’s shadow because there were no windows. I was running out of ideas of what it could’ve been. Then I wondered what if it were a human who had been trapped just like me. That option got eliminated when I heard this “I want you soul…” what did that even mean. Were they some sort of vampire? I hope not.

I sprinted to the door. “Help” I screamed, “Please somebody, help me!” While I was busy screaming for my life, I didn’t notice the footsteps behind me. Seconds later, I am slowly yet still painfully falling to the ground. I curved my eyes around to the side to see if I could see who it was that so desperately wanted to kill me. I saw a face. It was Millie! Why would she do this? I thought we were friends. But I guess I thought wrong. The last words I heard were “This is what you get for betraying your so-called best friend!” Everything went blank. I was officially dead.

So you see, I no doubt died the most awful death in history. 12th of January 1974, the day of my death!

If you are reading this, go to Dead Trap Forest to find me!

Here’s my next narrative, let me know what you think. A little darker than the last, but I mean hey. I can’t complain, I wrote it!

Spooky sick! @NUMBER1

Hello World

My name is Olivia McCole. I was born in New York and lived there for 2 years, yet raised in America for 6 and now I live in Summer Bay. I have lived here for 3 years so far but at the end of this year it will be 4. I am 11 years old and love Literacy (Mostly reading).

Don’t get me wrong when I say that I dislike school. I love to learn and all but I don’t exactly have any true friends. They think they are ‘too’ cool for school and I only hang out with them so they don’t think I am super dorky. People call me weird, ugly even a geek. Mind you I sort of am a geek!

Unfortunately I’m the youngest of 3 children, 2 brothers (James and Dominick/Dom). I mostly wear plain coloured T-shirts, track pants and/or leggings, oversized hoodies and sneakers. So you probably already know that I am a definite TomBoy. My golden brown hair is normally in a plait or bun.  I have a pet dog and 2 guinea pigs. My dog’s name is Bob and my guinea pigs are Lily and Rose. I chose these names because when we got Bob I was little and obsessed with Bob the builder and Roses and Lilies are my favourite flowers. My birthday is the 5th of June 2013. You’ll find out more facts about me throughout this story.

And it all begins

It all started on an early School day morning as I’ve already told you I hate School, so normally before I got to School I try to think of things that might happen (most likely not but still) that would be so despicable they would have to cancel School. I don’t know why but thinking of this sort of thing soothes me. All of a sudden I came up with a mind changing, no incredible, no brilliant idea. “Imagine if everybody at Summer Bay primary school all got so sick they couldn’t come to school?” It was a great idea, but I knew that it probably wasn’t going to happen. “Come on Olivia, it’s time to go!” My mum calls from the living room. When she tells me this I know that she means now because she doesn’t drop us off in her car, we have to take the sketchy, torturing Bus! “Olivia, NOW!” Mum Screeches. I run down the hall and out the creaking sliding door sitting behind the dining table.

Spew

When I arrived at School I saw something astonishing. The sky as black as charcoal, the sun nowhere to be seen. This couldn’t be recognised as Summer Bay Primary School. The plants were dead, the trees I saw didn’t look like normal oat trees, there were no leaves, just toxic smelling dew dripping down from the bone-like branches. Vomit coated the ground, the playground covered with tissues. The air was so dusty and misty you couldn’t see a thing. People were asleep all over the place, they were in classrooms, on the floor, leaning against polesDid my imagination just come to life?

Be careful what you think

When I said I wanted the school to get sick so I wouldn’t have to come I wasn’t speaking literal language, I was speaking metaphorical language. I can not believe what my eyes are seeing right now! In the distance I saw my actual dorky, fun friend, Max. When I see Max, I notice her eyes are all puffy and red, her nose was dripping with snot and barf surrounded her mouth as if she was saving it for later. The way she walked reminded me of a zombie, but without the arms obviously.

Take the Blame

This was all my fault, I had imagined my School like this and it’s happened. What was I going to do??? I’ll tell you what I was gonna do, I was going to imagine my School healthy and well! Yeah, that idea stuck in my head for about 10 seconds. I had to figure something out. It brought me pain knowing that I had made my bestest friend this ill! I searched what had happened online and knew what I had to do…

What I’ve gotta do

I sprint to the meadow a few blocks away from School to collect an infrequent yellow sparkly blossom. According to a lot of hard research, this is what I need. I looked for ages and couldn’t even get a glimpse of it. “Hey girl, you looking for this,” a mysterious man says to me. He’s holding a gorgeous flower, just looking at it makes my eyes water. I could stare at it all day but I had to go now! “Yes I am, can I please have it?” I plead. The man stares at me and responds “It’ll cost you!” What did he mean? Cost me???

“What do you want?” I ask nervously.

“I want your knowledge,” he tells me. “I want you to tell me everything you know about your principal!” I don’t know why he wants this but I need this and so I tell him her favourite colour, her full name (middle name included), her hobbies, her husband etc. “Very nice young lady now here is your flower,” He hands the flower to me and I run eagerly back to School. All I had to do was crush the petals into dust and wake everybody up in 3 minutes! No biggie…

Back again

Once I got back to School I went straight to the science lab. I managed to crush the flowers in about 1 minute. I blew the powder around the School but nothing really happened. How could that be possible? I hope this wasn’t all for nothing. Max started to walk towards me, I made sure to note that all her symptoms were gone. Her puffy eyes had turned back to her regular ones, her nose was clear and mouth was completely clean. I was super Happy, maybe it had worked after all. “Max you’re back!” I say with excitement. She gives me the absolute weirdest look.

“Well duh, where else would I be?” She asks. “I’ve been here for hours.”

When she got sick her time must have somehow frozen. I couldn’t believe that she had no clue that she was so sick. I don’t think I can tell her what happened because it’ll no doubt just freak her out. Maybe someday but not today!

Sleep tight

Next thing I know I wake up in my bedroom curled up on my bed. Was it a dream after all? I guess so. It felt so real and I 100% wouldn’t have thought that what just happened was a dream! The only thing I wonder now is what that man wanted with my principal’s personal details. If I were asleep a little longer would I have found out? Well who knows, I’m just glad that we’re all safe.

The next day

The next day when I go to School I see a familiar sight. It was the man. The weird, creepy man that I saw the other day at the meadow. Why was he here? What was happening. “Morning Olivia,” Miss Talia greets. “I would like you to meet Mr T Bone, he will be your new principal. The government doesn’t think that someone who had to go to prison for breaking and entering should be allowed to be a principal at this school. I hate to say it but I would have to agree.”

I was in total shock how this could have happened. Miss Talia has been our principal for thousands of years. I couldn’t believe that this was happening. Max was sitting up against the great big climbing tree sobbing like a little baby. I know that sounds mean but it’s true. Maybe it wasn’t a dream after all…

Shool                                                                   Tree

In class recently, we have been working on narratives. Narratives are a type of story that is based on a fictional event. For example, if I were to write a story about saving the planet and why we should do it. That would be persuasive writing. However if I were to write about a story about a magical necklace that takes me to this enchanting world full of fairies, mermaids and unicorns. That would be a narrative. I love writing narrative stories and you may see a lot more of them on my posts. My next 3 post will be my 3 top favourites. How about that.

Now let me tell you about this one. This narrative is about a girl named Olivia who curses the School. It’s not that she doesn’t like learning. If she said that then she would be lying. It’s because she doesn’t have any true friends. Or none of them actually like her for that case. This curse is not like no other. It was a dream, or was it…

Read more to find out. Let me know what you think and feel free to give me feedback. Who’s your favourite character?

Keep an eye out for the next few narratives. Comment on your favourite one!
