Legs Tally – kick start

Hello Beautiful blog readers,

today I did another Summer Learning Journey task. Today’s task had a mix of two things, maths and centipedes. ICK! First we had to read a paragraph about them, we then watched a video of a giant centipede.  It was not my favourite. I learnt that centipedes have 100 legs and divided 100 by like 5 different numbers. cool right?

All up this activity didn’t take me long at all and I think that you should give it a try. Let me know in the comments what your favourite insect is.

Thank you for reading this weeks blog post, blog to you soon. Byyyyee!

Action Fractions!!!

In this Blog post I’m going to tell you how to add fractions. Let’s go!

To start you will need a piece of paper/book. We’re gonna start off easy, let’s do 1/4 + 2/4. Once you’ve drawn this up you’re gonna plus the top number – 1 + 2 = 3. The top number is called the numerator. Now that we have done that we are going to do the bottom number 4. As the both of the bottom numbers are 4 you just leave it as 4. The bottom number is called a denominator. The complete question is this 1/4 + 2/4 = 3/4. Some fractions will be able to be simplified in this case it can not be.

We will now do a harder question 3/4 + 5/7. For this we will do the exact same thing with the numerator but not with the denominator. Let’s get started! 3 + 5 =8. 8 will be our numerator. The Denominator will need to be worked out with times tables. to start off you need to work out what 8 x 4 is, the answer to this is 28. Now you need to find out whether the is a number smaller than 28 that 4 and 8 can both fit into? In this case there is a number smaller they can both fit into. It is 16. Can is go any smaller??? NO! It can not. Now can you simplify it? YES! You can divide both these numbers by 2. We have now got 4 and 8. Keep dividing this by 2 until you get the most simplest answer which is 1/2. This is your answer.

We aren’t gonna go any further than this as we have already learnt so much. Thanks for reading. Let me know if you found this easy or hard.

Doo Dah Division!!!

Konichiwa Blog Readers,

At the moment my class has been learning division! I already knew how to do division, but not long division. Short division you don’t show how you worked it out as much. However long division you do. In long division instead of just putting the remainder 1 next to the 2 in 7239 divided by 6 you would write it underneath the 7 and 6. I know it doesn’t make sense when I say it like this. But I don’t know how else I would explain it! It is honestly that hard. When I first saw long division on Prime Online I was like “What on earth is this? Is this even a question?” Later on I saw my teacher and she tried to explain it to me. I didn’t understand it though. It took me till term 2 to understand it!

These are some photos of long division on Prime online.

This Term when I understood it!                      Last term when I didn’t understand it!

Do you understand long division?
